YOUTH MINISTRY

Sunday School

Our Sunday School has learning opportunities for children ages 3 years old and up, for junior and senior high youth and for adults. Sunday School is held throughout the normal school year, from 9:45 to 10:45 AM each Sunday. There is nursery care available for children under 3 years old.

The children in kindergarten through fourth grade meet together to sing songs of faith from 9:40 to 9:55 AM near the kitchen. The senior high class, junior high class, and fifth/sixth grade class meet upstairs. All the other classes meet in the rooms behind the kitchen. Most classes have 2 or more teachers. We try to acquaint the children with various well known Biblestories and help them to learn to pray and understand God more clearly.

First Communion

First Communion preparation classes are offered for third graders (and those older) along with parents in the Fall. There are three classes followed by a home visit with Pastor. These classes are intended to help the young person understand the Lutheran concept of communion, as well as how to receive communion, and what is happening in the communion liturgy.

Junior and Senior High Sunday School

Our seventh and eighth graders meet upstairs in the middle room for SundaySchool. They use a Bible centered curriculum studying both Old Testament and New Testament stories. Attendance in Sunday School is part of our expectations for confirmation.

Our senior high class meets in the youth room (where all the sofas are). They have lively discussions centered around the themes of faith and life issues.

Confirmation

When an infant or child is baptized, parents and sponsors promise to raise that child in the faith, to teach them the Lord's Prayer, Ten Commandments, the Creed, etc. Confirmation is the fulfilling of that promise as our young people (7th and 8th graders) learn about the faith in order to make their own commitment. Classes for first and second year students are held on Wednesdays during the school year from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. First year Confirmation study Biblical themes; second year studies include Luther's Small Catechism. One week Confirmation Camp at the end of June is also part of the curriculum. Students confirm their faith in the fall of 9th grade.
